Lansing Capitol Follies

“These stories provide snapshots about wasteful state government contracts and are a real eye-opener. Don’t even talk to me about cutting state workers’ pay and benefits until state government gets a grip on this insanity.â€

The Michigan State Employees Association (MSEA), AFSCME Local 5 of the AFL-CIO, is a public sector union representing primarily state, but also county and university employees.

Organized by 100 state employees in 1950, MSEA now has approximately 4,500 members.  The workforce and workplace environment have changed significantly through the years.  MSEA has also changed with the times, building an organization that encourages and supports member involvement at all levels.

By the power of every member’s vote, and the entitlement to be heard, to effect changes, and to be elected to all leadership positions, MSEA continues to be member-inspired, member-operated.
